"Made by hand. Designed for many."

Southern Crossings Pottery Festival is a yearly ceramics event that aims to highlight the cultural significance and historical background of local pottery, as well as contribute to addressing hunger among children in our community. This festival provides a meaningful experience that explores the various ways in which a bowl can provide nourishment to both individuals and the community as a whole, while also introducing innovative developments in the field of contemporary ceramics.

About

Founded in 2017 by Jason Bige Burnett, Amy Chase and Steven G. Cheek, Southern Crossings Pottery Festival (SXPF) is held the first weekend of March each year. This festival showcases the excellence in contemporary utilitarian ceramics while highlighting how pottery can be a vessel for engagement with our community.

SXPF is a volunteer based non-profit organization led by our current team of Amy Chase, Steven G Cheek and Lindsay Oesterritter. The success of this yearly event is due to the many volunteers, donors, sponsors and community collaborators who help our team create this one of a kind festival in our region.

Our Mission and Purpose

Southern Crossings Pottery Festival’s focus is on the significance of handmade pottery by celebrating the object, it’s maker, and the utilitarian use in nourishing ourselves and those around us.

Our mission is to introduce to you, our Ohio River Valley communities, collectors, pottery enthusiasts and the curious, to local and regional potters, as well as several nationally recognized potters. The two-day festival includes a market consisting of handmade goods and functional wares, and an Empty Bowls fundraising event benefiting non-profit organizations that focus on solving childhood hunger in Kentuckiana.

In the years to come we envision hands on activities, lectures, and exhibitions with our local clay organizations, universities, and galleries while creating an event that celebrates how clay and pottery, by design, connects us all.

Diversity Inclusion

The diverse nature of pottery through clay and glazes are similar to the people who use them. Southern Crossings Pottery Festival believes that inclusion of all are essential to fulfilling our mission. Through education, exhibitions, outreach, and the contributions of all people we hope to nurture our Ohio River Valley communities. Regardless of age, ability, ethnicity, race, religion, philosophical or political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, nationality, geographic origin, and socioeconomic status Southern Crossings Pottery Festival is committed to valuing the perspectives of all people -- and provide an environment free of discrimination.
